Position Summary

The Site Walk OSP Engineer assists in supporting fiber optic network construction by participating in site walks, pole fielding, and work validations to help ensure projects meet design and quality standards. This role involves working closely with customers, engineers, and contractors to gather information, validate work accuracy, and inspect completed installations. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, have good technical skills, and be able to provide accurate reports and assist with cost estimates for project planning and execution. This position requires the ability to work independently in the field, adapt to different environments, and maintain a focus on safety and compliance. This position will work out of our Boise or Coeur d’Alene, Idaho office. The position will report to our Director - Digital Transformation & Automation.

Responsibilities:

  • Site Walks with Customers
    • Assist in preparing detailed reports to support the creation of prints, splice documents, and permit submissions.
    • Help verify existing conduit when necessary.
  • Pole Fielding
    • Gather required information for applications, identifying potential risks and suggesting alternative routes.
  • Work Validation and Quality Inspection
    • Ensure restoration, both soft and hard surfaces, is completed.
    • Compare work against as-built specifications to verify billing accuracy.
    • Check that pole attachments and make-ready requirements are correctly completed.
    • Notify the engineer when tasks are finished, and permits are ready for final inspection and closure.
  • Cost Estimates
    • Learn Fatbeam design standards, including fiber count selection, vault sizing, and conduit requirements.
    • Identify ground conditions, splicing and restoration needs, and traffic control requirements.

Education and/or Experience:

  • No prior experience required; some experience in fiber optic or telecommunications infrastructure, particularly in OSP construction, is a plus but not necessary.
  • Basic knowledge or interest in fiber optic network design, permitting, and pole fielding is preferred.
  • Familiarity with job site inspections and construction quality control is helpful but not required.
  • Willingness to learn installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks, including basic knowledge of splicing, testing, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Clean driving record required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for site walk discussions, reporting, and coordinating with engineers, contractors, and clients.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical details into clear, actionable information for project stakeholders.
  • Excellent customer service skills to foster positive relationships with clients during site visits.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple sites or projects with guidance.
  • Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
  • A strong commitment to safety and quality standards, ensuring all work adheres to compliance guidelines.

Additional information:

Fatbeam requires a background check and the acceptance of a basic non-compete documents for all employees. The background check takes 3-5 days.
